How to do the Lever Lying Chest Press

  1. Set the machine arm stops, if adjustable, so you can reach the handles comfortably with your elbows beneath your wrists. Check the range with a light warm-up before adding weight plates evenly to both sides.

  2. Lie on the horizontal machine bench with your head, upper back and buttocks supported. Plant both feet securely on the floor and align the handles with your lower-to-middle chest.

  3. Grip the horizontal handles with your palms facing toward your feet. Keep your wrists mostly straight and your forearms under the handles.

  4. Draw your shoulder blades together, maintain a natural lower-back curve and brace your abdominals. Keep this stable position throughout the set.

  5. Press both handles upward in their natural arc until your elbows straighten. Keep your elbows under your wrists without lifting your hips or forcing your shoulders forward.

  6. Lower the handles under control to a comfortable chest stretch. Use the fullest range you can maintain without shoulder pain; avoid bouncing against the stops.

  7. Repeat with your feet planted and your back supported. If one side cannot follow the same controlled range, reduce the load rather than twisting your body.

  8. Finish by lowering both machine arms fully onto their stops before releasing the handles. Keep the weight manageable enough to control the final repetition.
