How to do the Dumbbell Skater Chop

Setup

Start by holding a single dumbbell with both hands. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and your core engaged.

Movement

  1. Jump Laterally: Perform a lateral skater hop, jumping to one side and landing on the outside leg while crossing the other leg behind.

  2. Chop: As you land, swing the dumbbell from high overhead on the side you hopped towards, down and across your body towards the opposite hip in a chopping motion.

  3. Return: Explosively push off the grounded foot to jump to the other side, bringing the dumbbell back up overhead as you transition, repeating the chop in the opposite direction.

Maintain a steady rhythm, focusing on core engagement during the rotational 'chop' movement and control during the landing of each hop.
